About me

WHO AM I

I am a fourth-year at the University of California, San Diego, completing my undergraduate degree as well as my Masters in International Affairs - International Management through the 5 year BA/MIA program through the UC San Diego Global Policy School. As someone who is multi-lingual and multi-cultural, I was raised balancing multiple cultural identities in my Egyptian, Greek, and American household. My experience in navigating my own cultural identity led me to continually pursue environments where I can collaborate with others from diverse backgrounds and feel comfortable while doing so.

ACADEMICS

My interest in the intersectionality between global economic patterns, public policy, and different cultures was explored through my Bachelor’s in International Business where I have taken courses in Finance, Negotiations, Marketing, Economics, and Organizational Leadership. Additionally, my Master’s program in International Affairs - International Management continues to examine the fiscal implications of economic policy, globalization, and and increasingly interconnected world economy.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

In my professional life I’ve spearheaded philanthropic initiatives in Egypt through leading fundraising efforts for “57357”, the largest cancer hospital in the Middle East for its non-profit pediatric cancer care.

Additionally, I served as a youth ambassador for the Egyptian Government’s “Speak Arabic!” initiative which encouraged Arab youth in the diaspora to maintain their heritage through speaking Arabic. I was featured in several promotion videos and gave speeches to audiences of diaspora youth where I shared my own experiences and the value of being multilingual.

Most recently, I worked as a digital marketing intern for LPL Financial, a fortune 500 company and the largest independent broker dealer in the United States. At LPL, I spearheaded content creation initiatives for their FOCUS conference. Attended by nearly 8,000 financial professionals, I created 40 pre-, during, and post-event content pieces for the largest conference of financial professionals in the US. Additionally I assisted with re-brand initiatives by presenting mock-ups and ideas to incorporate their new visual ID into their university recruiting materials.

TRAVEL AND LINGUISTICS

Additionally, my identity as an Arab-American raised in a multi-lingual and multi-cultural household shaped my love for engaging with people from different backgrounds and learning about different languages and cultures. This has translated into a passion for language learning and travel. To date, I am fully fluent in Arabic, English, French, Spanish, and Greek, and am challenging myself by learning Italian and Turkish. I have used my translation skills to help me connect with locals while traveling and have visited 38 countries, spanning North America, Asia, and Europe.

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

In my free time, I enjoy performing as the principal opening vocal soloist for the Layali Zaman Academy Arab Orchestra in Beverly Hills, CA. I perform classical Arabic music accompanied by a 30 piece orchestra for an audience of approximately 1,000 people bi-annually at their Winter and Spring concerts. I have been fortunate enough to perform for the Egyptian, Lebanese, Kuwaiti, Qatari, and Iraqi ambassadors respectively.
